Willpower is a vital tool in achieving targets. We can find ourselves having willpower at the beginning of a personal challenge; we are determined and focused. However, we all experience how quickly other factors in life can over-run our thoughts and disturb all the factors which would help us to achieve our ideals. So, how do you keep the willpower alive?
The energy draining thoughts of self-consciousness and insecurity sabotage us by hijacking our “logical brain”. When we are feeling stress, we can find ourselves in an “emotional hijack”. In order to control the stress levels we have to regain focus and introspection – planning and remembering your goals. The quicker you can correct this, the better.
Shifting the focus from emotional to physical is how to reset the brain balance. The key is to tap into your physical sensations. By slowing down and stopping to think how your clothes feel on your skin, listening to the sounds around you, considering the textures of food as you eat…. Psychology researchers show that it can be achieved by simply taking a few deep breaths. Doing so forces you to focus on a physical sensation you otherwise may not have been aware of.
Practising “mindfulness meditation” will avoid the background emotional drains as well as the overt emotional challenges of life. Emotional hijacking will lose and your willpower will prevail!
